KUCHING, Dec 29: Sarawak’s unique spirit of multicultural harmony takes the spotlight in a Chinese New Year (CNY) music video produced by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian lauded MBKS for spearheading the project, emphasising that the video highlights the State’s vibrant cultural blend as it progresses under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
He further stated that the difference between 2014 and 2024 is significant, but the next six years will be even more critical as Sarawak continues its journey.
“It is vital for all Sarawakians to come together to preserve the best aspects of Sarawak—our unity, harmony, and peace.
“These are the foundations that will enable us to focus on our progress, especially in achieving our goals for PCDS 2030, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and securing health and education autonomy in our nation-building efforts,” he said during a music video recording at MBKS Park today, Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) reported.
Meanwhile, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng explained that the video serves not only to celebrate Chinese New Year but also to promote Padungan’s rich cultural heritage, including its historical landmarks and iconic murals.
“The music video showcases Padungan’s charm, blending its festive atmosphere with the historical and cultural vibrancy of the area. We hope it will inspire more tourists to explore this beautiful part of Kuching,” he said.
Dato Wee also addressed recent discussions about the iconic white cat statue in Padungan, which was dressed in traditional Chinese attire for the video to align with the festive theme.
He clarified that it would have been inappropriate to feature the cat in its previous Christmas outfit, given the context of the Chinese New Year celebration.
“We assure the public that we are mindful of these seasonal changes. Dressing the cat according to festive themes is part of our effort to bring in more visitors and enhance the city’s appeal.
“We welcome all feedback, especially constructive criticism, which helps us improve,” Wee added. – DayakDaily
