KUCHING, Aug 20: Sarawak has made waves at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) Sarawak 2024, capturing an impressive haul of three gold medals on just the second day of the diving competition today, held at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya here.
In the 3-metre mixed rhythmic springboard final, Sarawakian siblings, 19-year-old Awang Sharzan Nasrin Awang Nasaruddin and 17-year-old Dayang Nursharzyra Awang Nasaruddin, clinched the gold medal with a total score of 227.13 points, earning the State its third gold medal of the competition.
The silver medal was claimed by Federal Territory’s duo, Celeste Qin Lee and Choo Jin Wei, with a total score of 209.04 points, while Terengganu’s pair, Muhamad Haziq Muizzudin Mohd Asri and Uzlifatil Jannah Ashraf, secured the bronze medal with a total of 201.81 points.
Meanwhile, in the women’s 1-metre springboard final, Sarawakian diver Dayang Nursharzyra Awang Nasaruddin won gold with a score of 232.10 points, bringing the State its fourth gold medal of the competition.
This victory also earned Nursharzyra her second gold medal in the diving events.
Her contenders, Uzlifatil Jannah Ashraf from Terengganu, took home the silver with 186.60 points, while Teng Hui Xue from the Federal Territory earned the bronze with 171.95 points, rounding out the podium finishers.
Additionally, another Sarawakian, 14-year-old Trisya Ann Voon, finished seventh with a score of 153.40 points.
In the men’s 10-metre synchronised platform final, Sarawak’s Elvis Priestley Clement, 18, and Enrique Maccartney Harold, 21, won gold with a total score of 384.72 points, securing the State’s fifth gold medal of the competition.
This victory also awarded Priestley his second gold medal in the diving events.
The silver medal was claimed by the duo from Sabah, Julfaddli Jali and Muhammad Anilrian Normatr Abdullah, with a total score of 282.12 points, while the bronze went to the Federal Territory’s pair, Donald Chen Da Win and Choo Jin Wei, with a total score of 271.53 points. — DayakDaily
