KUCHING, Aug 13: The Sarawak men’s lawn bowls team got off to a strong start in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) Sarawak 2024, clinching a victory in the first round of Group F at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena today.
The team, represented by Awang Mohammad Sharszan F Awang Nasaruddin, Iskandar Hasbi, and Mohamad Amsyar Mohamad Amelin, delivered an outstanding performance, overcoming their opponents from Johor—Aide Hamsyar Mohd Hairi, Muhammad Afiq Danial Suhaimi, and Muhammad Azriq Haszely—with a score of 14-10.
Iskandar noted that the team’s preparation for Sukma 2024, which spanned over a year, has clearly paid off.
“We trained in Terengganu for three months, with the rest of our preparation in Sarawak,” he said in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Awang Mohammad Sharszan expressed hope for continued success in their upcoming matches. “Our goal is to maintain, if not improve, our performance so we can reach the finals,” he explained.
Looking ahead to their next match against Kelantan, Mohamad Amsyar emphasised the need for further improvements. “There are many areas we need to work on, and I’m committed to helping the team make our journey smoother,” he added.
Sarawak’s coach, Nur Fithri Yaani Hamdin, expressed her satisfaction with the trio’s performance, highlighting their ability to surpass the strong challenge posed by the Johor team.
“I’m grateful that they were able to compete against Johor, a team known for its fierce competition,” she said.
The Sarawak lawn bowls team will face off against Kelantan in their next match, aiming to continue their winning streak. — DayakDaily
