KUCHING, Aug 7: Sarawak is poised to open its first hospice and palliative care centre, a RM17 million facility established through a collaborative initiative between the Kuching Life Care Society (KLCS) and the local community.
In a TVS news report, Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah emphasised that the centre, which is fully funded through public contributions, will serve as a crucial alternative for palliative care patients in Sarawak, complementing existing services at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“The building is fully completed and is currently awaiting a license from the Private Medical Practice Control Division (CKAPS) to commence operations.
“CKAPS officers have already conducted an inspection of the premises, and we are now just waiting for the final approval to be issued,” she said during a visit to the facility located at the KLCS building in Taman Desa Wira on Wednesday (Aug 6).
The three-storey facility is equipped with a range of amenities including treatment rooms, air-conditioned patient suites, an elevator, a rehabilitation room, a library, and a mini hall.
Fatimah highlighted that the project exemplifies a successful public-private partnership model that can significantly enhance community well-being.
“In addition to providing more comfortable supportive care for cancer patients, the centre will also create opportunities for increased volunteer participation in palliative care services,” she added. — DayakDaily
