KUCHING, March 9: Sarawak’s first integrated lorry terminal is expected to be constructed in Miri, near the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club (EVGCC) along Jalan Miri-Bypass.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the planned 6.64-acre terminal has received an additional RM5 million allocation from the Sarawak government, bringing the total funding to RM20 million. The re-tendering process began on February 25, with construction expected to take 1.5 years.
“This lorry terminal is not just a logistics hub but will also be equipped with modern facilities such as warehouses, mini maintenance workshops, accommodations, and a mini-mart for long-haul lorry drivers travelling from Kuching to Miri before continuing their journey to Limbang, Lawas, Sabah, and vice versa,” Sarawak’s Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin was quoted as saying during the Swearing-In Ceremony of the Miri Lorry Owners Association’s 30th-term Committee yesterday.

He explained that the terminal could enhance driver safety by providing a comfortable resting area, thereby reducing the risk of accidents caused by fatigue.
Additionally, the terminal is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion in Miri by providing storage warehouses for goods transfer using smaller vehicles.
“Miri is the main transportation hub in northern Sarawak, and an efficient logistics system is crucial to support local economic growth,” he added. – DayakDaily
