KUCHING, March 22: Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 caseload has risen to 1,547 today, with five districts reporting triple-digit cases, namely Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, and Samarahan, and one fatality reported in Bintulu.
According to a statement issued today by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the sole Covid-19 death involved a 62-year-old man with hypertension comorbidities who died on March 20 at Bintulu Hospital.
Kuching remains the district with the highest number of cases with 569, followed by Bintulu (191 cases), Miri (128 cases), Sibu (127 cases), and Samarahan (105 cases).
Among the 14 districts with double-digit cases were Serian (68), Sarikei (49), Bau (45), Sri Aman (40), Betong (21), Limbang (17), Dalat and Asajaya (13 each), Julau and Tebedu (12 each), Pusa, Marudi, Lubok Antu, and Kabong (10 each).
The remaining districts with single-digit cases are Saratok, Mukah, Simunjan, and Subis (9 each), Meradong and Kanowit (8 each), Lawas (7), Matu (6), Pakan (5), Lundu, Daro, and Kapit (4), Tatau and Telang Usan (3 each), Belaga, Beluru, and Selangau (2 each), Song, Sebauh, and Bukit Mabong (1 each).
Meanwhile, 427 of the new cases were classified as Category 1 (asymptomatic), while 1,112 were classified as Category 2 (mild symptoms).
Additionally, three of the new cases were in Category 3 and involved patients with pneumonia; four were in Category 4 and involved patients with pneumonia who needed oxygen support; and one was in Category 5 and involved a patient with pneumonia who needed ventilator support.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 290,207.
Six clusters are still active in Sarawak today, and no new clusters have been reported. — DayakDaily
