Sarawak’s culinary pride: Kantin at The Granary nominated for Malaysia’s Best Restaurant award

KUCHING, June 20: Sarawak’s culinary scene has gained recognition in the gastronomy world, with Kantin at The Granary being the only restaurant from Sarawak nominated for the prestigious Malaysia’s Best Restaurant award.

According to a press release, Kantin recently received an email confirmation of its nomination for the fifth annual World Culinary Awards.

This nomination places Kantin in the running for Malaysia’s Best Restaurant, competing alongside eight other prominent brands from across the country, including Michelin two-star restaurants.

The other nominated restaurants are all based in Kuala Lumpur and include Dewakan, a Michelin two-star fine dining restaurant and three-time winner of the award; Flour Restaurant, offering modern fine Indian cuisine with French influence; Fuego, a Spanish restaurant and rooftop bar; the well-known burger and music combo, Hard Rock Café; Marble 8, a Michelin Select premier steakhouse specialising in dry-aged beef; Marini’s on 57, an ultra chic Italian restaurant and whisky lounge; Nobu, world-renowned for its Japanese-Peruvian cuisine; and The Ame Souer, renowned for its 18th-century Renaissance design and syphon coffee.

“Kantin is the sole representative from Sarawak in this competition, marking a moment of pride for the people of Sarawak.

“This nomination not only highlights Sarawak’s culinary excellence but also lays the groundwork for Kantin to expand its brand into Kuala Lumpur in the future,” the release stated.

Voting for the award is open to the public, including culinary professionals, media personnel, and customers. The voting period started on May 30 and will continue until Aug 30.
