Sarawak’s Covid-19 cases rise to 744 as nation’s total drops below 5,000

KUCHING, June 14: Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases dropped below the 5,000-mark but Sarawak saw cases rise to 744 today.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah disclosed that the nation recorded a total of 4,949 cases with Selangor still accounting for the highest tally with 1,523 cases.


“Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur took second and third with 744 cases and 503 cases respectively.

“To date, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country stands at 662,457,” he said in a statement today.

The last time the nation recorded daily cases below the 5,000-case mark was on May 18 with 4,865 cases.

Since then, daily numbers have remained above that line with the highest daily total at 9,020 recorded on May 29, which is the only time the nation recorded daily cases above 9,000.

Dr Noor Hisham noted that the number of daily cases have been dropping since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented on June 1.

On the breakdown of the total cases, Selangor reported 1,523, followed by Sarawak (744), Kuala Lumpur (503), Johor (430), Negeri Sembilan (323), Sabah (273), Pulau Pinang (214), Kelantan (214), Kedah (199), Perak (136), Melaka (119), Labuan (113), Terengganu (86), Pahang (61), Putrajaya (10) and Perlis (1). — DayakDaily
