Sarawakians pay tribute to the memory of Tok Nan

In remembrance of Tok Nan, who fought to restore Sarawak's rights.

KUCHING, Jan 11: A memorial service is being held now at Kuching Waterfront to commemorate the passing of late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

Tan Kok Chiang, the spokesperson for Sarawak For Sarawakians (S4S) Kuching which organised the tribute said that this has been an annual event since Tok Nan’s passing three years ago.


This afternoon, S4S Kuching leaders and supporters paid their respects to Adenan at his grave at Islamic Cemetery at Jalan Sultan Tengah.

“We just want to remember him for his love for Sarawak and to remind other Sarawakians of his fighting spirit in regaining Sarawak’s rights,” Tan told DayakDaily.

He said that each year, about 1,000 people have turned up to light a candle in memory of Tok Nan.

“We will prepare about 1,000 candles for those who want to light one for Tok Nan. And every year, all the candles will be used up. So we know about 1,000 comes to show their respect,” said Tan.

It has been observed that people of all ages – elderly, young and even children, under the lead of their parents, come to pay their respects.

The memorial is being held from 7pm-10pm. —DayakDaily
