KUCHING, Sept 25: Sarawakian athlete Jamal Nasir Zulkiplis set a new Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) record in the men’s F55 javelin throw event held at Sarawak Stadium here today, winning a gold medal in the process.
The 43-year-old cleared a distance of 21.09 metres, surpassing the previous record of 20.97m set by Melaka’s Mohd Shaari Mohd Jaafar during the 2022 edition of the games.
The silver medal went to Selangor’s Muhammad Amirul Alif Abdul Raof (19.33m) while Sabah’s Samri Butak bagged bronze (19.04m).
This is his second medal after he won bronze in the men’s F55 shot put event yesterday (Sept 24) with a distance of 6.93m.
The gold medal went to Selangor’s Muhammad Amirul Alif Abdul Raof (8.68m) while the silver was bagged by Melaka’s Mohammad Zikri Zakaria (8.25m).
Jamal’s next event will be the men’s F55 discus throw which will take place at the same venue at 9.45am tomorrow (Sept 26).
F55 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics for people who compete in field events from a seated position (wheelchair) – affected by limb deficiency, impaired passive range of movement (PROM), impaired muscle power or leg length difference. — DayakDaily
