KUCHING, Aug 18: Sarawakian golfers Mirabel Ting Ern Hui and Anson Yeo Boon Xiang demonstrated exceptional skills in the women’s and men’s individual golf events at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma), winning gold medals in their respective events today at Sarawak Golf Club here.
Ting added to Sarawak’s gold tally with a score of 206 strokes. She outperformed Wang Xin Yao from Perak, who took the silver with a score of 216, while the Federal Territories’ Ng Jing Xuen secured the bronze with a score of 218.
In the men’s individual category, Yeo won gold for Sarawak with a score of 210 strokes. Selangor’s Mohammad Ajmal Amin Fajri and Perak’s Andrew Yap secured silver and bronze, respectively, with scores of 213 and 217 strokes.
Meanwhile, in the women’s team event, Sarawak settled for bronze with a score of 688 strokes, achieved by Ting, Sharifah Aiysyah, and Abigail Kedung.
Selangor, with a tied score of 688, secured the silver after a ‘On-Count Back’ decision for their team comprising Foong Zi Yu, Aarthi Ganesan, Nur Batrisya Balqis, and Kaathiyayani.
Perak emerged victorious in the women’s team event, taking the gold with a total score of 676 strokes by their team comprising Wang, Nur Diana Syafiqah, Siti Nur Husna, and Nurul Adawiyah.
In the men’s team event, Sarawak achieved a silver medal with a combined score of 666 strokes by the team of Yeo, Joshua Lim, Cayden Kong, and Wesley Chai.
Selangor emerged as the champions, securing the gold with a score of 659 strokes from Mohammad Ajmal, Poon Jia Hao, Austin Gan, and Ezekiel Riz Hafi.
Perak claimed the bronze in the men’s team event with a total score of 669 strokes from Aiden Tai John Roberts, Yap, Lim Hao Yu, and Mohammad Rafiq Nadzimi. — DayakDaily
