KUCHING, July 22: Sarawakian diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises made history by becoming the first Malaysian athlete to secure a coveted spot in the XXXIII Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris in 2024.
At the age of 18, Bertrand’s remarkable achievement came to fruition as he secured his place in Paris 2024 with a commendable 10th-place finish in the Semi Final of the Diving Men’s 10m Platform event at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka on Friday (July 21).
According to social media post by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), only the top 12 individuals in the event would earn a chance to compete in Paris 2024, making Bertrand’s accomplishment even more significant.
This upcoming event in Paris will mark Bertrand’s debut appearance at the Olympics, adding an extra layer of excitement and anticipation to his journey.
OCM president, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, took the opportunity to extend his heartfelt congratulations to Bertrand and offered his best wishes for the young diver’s preparations ahead of the Paris 2024 Games.
