KUCHING, Aug 22: In a thrilling showdown at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, the Sarawak women’s swimming team secured a silver medal in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay today.
The team, composed of Chereen Ngo Yi Rui, Magdalene Lau Ing Siew, Shanise Jauwa Joseline Adong, and Kelly Teo Yao, delivered a commendable performance, clocking in at 8:52.19 to claim the silver.
The gold medal was claimed by the Selangor swimming squad, featuring Khew Zi Xian, Shannon Tan Yan Qing, Yoong Jia Jia, and Lim Shun Qi, who finished the race with a time of 8:45.45.
Penang’s team, consisting of Hooy Jia Yee, Yeoh Yun Xuan, Vivian Tee Xin Ling, and Yeap Mei Kuan, took the bronze with a time of 8:54.86.
As the swimming events draw to a close on the second last day, the medal tally revealed Selangor as the dominant force in the pool, leading with an impressive haul of 12 gold, 17 silver, and six bronze medals.
The Federal Territory followed in second place with 12 gold, seven silver, and five bronze, while Sarawak held a strong third position with seven gold, one silver, and six bronze.
The final day of swimming competition tomorrow promises intense battles as athletes compete for the remaining eight gold, eight silver, and eight bronze medals, bringing the aquatic events at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) to a conclusion. — DayakDaily
