LAWAS, Sept 7: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah arrived safely in Sarawak at 8pm today, marking the second part of their historic ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour.
The royal couple and their entourage entered Sarawak through the Merapok ICQ and proceeded straight to Lawas Waterfront, where they received a warm welcome from the acting Head of State Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof accompanied them, and the local Lawas community enthusiastically greeted their arrival, seizing the opportunity to shake hands and capture memorable photos with the King and Queen, who are known for their humble and down-to-earth demeanor.
Following the completion of their tour across Sabah, covering a distance of approximately 900 kilometres since Sept 3, the royal couple will commence their Bumi Kenyalang tour.
Notably, Lawas district, spanning 3,812 square kilometres with a population of 46,200, became the initial stop in Sarawak for the ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ convoy.
The day’s activities featured cultural performances from six different ethnic groups and a plaque signing session.
Thereafter, the convoy proceeded on its journey, crossing the Temburung Bridge en route to Brunei Darussalam before making its way to Miri for the continuation of the tour.
The ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ tour is set to encompass major cities including Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sri Aman, and Kuching, ultimately concluding in Telok Melano, Lundu, situated in the southern region of Sarawak.
This 11-day journey along the Pan Borneo Highway commenced in Tawau, Sabah, on Sept 3 and is scheduled to conclude on Sept 13, covering a total distance of 2,154km.
Dignitaries in attendance included Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Federal Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee, and other esteemed guests. — DayakDaily
