KUCHING, March 18: Non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sarawak Volunteers has given a facelift to the library of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abun Matu in Belaga in the hopes of creating a conducive reading environment and e-access space to the students.

According to a press release, the volunteer group embarked on the ‘Mansang Anak Sarawak Zon Bintulu – Misi Tuyang’ trip from March 14 to 16.

Renovation efforts include aspects such as painting and rearranging bookshelves, creating an interactive space, adding a new television space, and improving the overall aesthetics of the library.

In addition to renovation efforts, Sarawak Volunteers also donated stationery sets and school bags to 55 school boarding students.

“Volunteer projects involving students or teenagers need to be expanded throughout Sarawak. Moreover, now that Sarawak is starting to receive investment or the entry of multinational companies, it should be encouraged to implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) with local NGOs.

“We from Sarawak Volunteers are always ready to collaborate with corporate and private companies to contribute to the local community,” said Frank Erly Roma, Mansang Bintulu Project Leader, during the closing ceremony. — DayakDaily
