KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20: The 14th edition of Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak is ready to open its doors to 6,500 attendees at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here tomorrow (Oct 21).

Organised by Sarawak Volunteers Association (Sarawak Volunteers) with the support of the Sarawak government, the one-day event aims to bring together Sarawakian students studying in Malaya and allow them to have two-way interaction with the State leaders.

Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof who is also Minister of Plantation and Commodity as well as patron of Sarawak Volunteers, said that the event would begin with several sessions in the morning which consisted of exhibitions from Sarawak agencies and the private sector.

The exhibitions will be open to the public especially Sarawakians and students to explore employment opportunities, education, scholarship and local product sales.

“After that, we will have a dialogue among ‘siswa’ (university students) and we will have another session with the leaders.

“The highlight of the event would be the townhall session with the Premier of Sarawak (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) in the evening at around 4pm,” he told reporters during the event’s rehearsal at the venue today.

Fadillah also mentioned that the event would continue with a dinner with Sarawakian children with Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the Sarawak government leadership led by Abang Johari.

He added that there would be cultural performances brought exclusively from Sarawak as well as other performances.

Fadillah also mentioned that the event serves as a platform for young Sarawakians registered into Sarawak Volunteers to be trained and they represent the organisation in their respective universities, serving as mediator between Sarawak leaders and the students.

Also present were Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang, Deputy Minister of Health Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi and Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli. — DayakDaily
