KUCHING, Feb 22: The Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVS), in collaboration with enforcement authorities, will launch another crackdown on unvaccinated pets across Sarawak.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has warned that authorities, including the local government, will no longer waive fines for pet owners who fail to comply with the mandatory anti-rabies vaccination for dogs in Sarawak.

“We have announced that MBKS will conduct five mass anti-rabies vaccination campaigns this year (with the first completed on Feb 15).

“I hope all pet owners will ensure to bring their animals to receive their annual vaccinations or boosters without excuses,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.

Wee also revealed that a rabies positive case, involving a free roaming pet dog, was detected last week in Kampung Bobak Sejinjang in Bau.

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Pet Walk 2025 event will return on April 27, with the flag-off ceremony at 6.45am from the MBKS Foyer.

The closing date for registration is March 23, 2025.
“Only vaccinated dogs will be allowed to participate in the 3km walk. This is in line with a vaccination drive which will be held prior to the event to ensure compliance,” Wee added.

The next four anti-rabies vaccination campaigns are scheduled as follows:

  • April 12 – MBKS Community Hall
  • July 5 – Song Swee Guan Recreational Park, Tabuan Jaya
  • Sept 20 – MBKS Community Hall
  • Oct 4 – Sarawak Association Basketball Court, Taman Seng Goon
