According to a statement issued by JOAS, this year’s event will feature a series of seminars and discussions focusing on critical issues affecting indigenous peoples in Malaysia.

“Key topics will include legal frameworks and protection for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, cultural preservation and the transmission of traditional knowledge, sustainable development and environmental stewardship in Indigenous Peoples’ territories, lands and resources, and health and education access for isolated indigenous communities.

“These sessions aim to foster dialogue, share knowledge, and develop strategies to support the rights and well-being of Indigenous Peoples,” it said.

JOAS also disclosed that representatives from Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) will attend the celebration, further underscoring the significance of the event.

Observed annually on Aug 9, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was established to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population and to acknowledge their contributions to global society.
