KUCHING, March 11: Sarawak will host the first Media Conference in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) 2024.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are expected to attend the event.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said Hawana 2024 will take place at Plaza Merdeka shopping mall here from May 25 to 27, while the Sarawak Media Conference 2024 will be held from May 26 to 27 at the Pullman Hotel.
He added that 300 journalists, including those flying from Peninsular Malaysia, are expected to attend the two programmes.
“Hawana 2024 and the Sarawak Media Conference 2024 are among the platforms to provide exposure to the latest developments happening in Sarawak.
“With this, they will develop a better understanding of the local community, our stable political atmosphere, and development planning under the leadership of the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the government of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said after paying a courtesy call to Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee and Ukas director Samuel Simon were also present during the courtesy call.
Abdullah further said that the highlight of Hawana 2024 is an exhibition that displays the journeys, experiences, and sacrifices of journalists.
“We want this exhibition to give a true picture of the history of journalists’ journeys up to today.
“At the Sarawak Media Conference, we will discuss challenges in the digital era and how information between the community and the government can bring both parties together,” he said.
It was also reported that Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is expected to grace the Hawana 2024 dinner at Riverside Majestic Hotel on May 26. — DayakDaily
