Sarawak to build more sports facilities in rural areas, says Deputy Minister

BINTULU, Oct 11: The Sarawak government will focus on the development of sports in rural areas by building more facilities, said Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Gerald said the rural sports development initiative will include the organisation of various sports activities towards achieving the target of becoming a developed State with high income by 2030 as outlined in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“Allocations to build and upgrade sports infrastructure are not only focused in urban areas but also in rural areas to benefit the local community,” he said during the Sarawak-level Sports Day 2022 held at Bintulu Civic Centre here yesterday.


He also thanked the Federal government for allocating RM332 million for the implementation of training programmes and national sports facilities next year.

At the same time, Gerald suggested that the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) organise cycling activities to foster a culture of healthy living and foster better ties among staff.

The Sarawak-level Sports Day 2022 celebration in Bintulu featured many activities such as a Fun Ride, aerobathon, autoshow exhibition and kite-flying.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Dato Majang Renggi; Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip; Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming; Bintulu Resident Datu Jack Aman Luat; BDA general manager Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari; and Sarawak Youth and Sports Department director Lamat Nyalau. — DayakDaily
