KUCHING, Sept 26: The Sarawak government is set to construct a new boulevard in Samarahan which is expected to be the longest in the State.

According to a TVS news report, Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, announced the plan recently, stating that the new boulevard could serve as a key location for hosting government events, similar to the role currently played by Padang Merdeka in Kuching.

He highlighted that the increasing congestion at Padang Merdeka has made the area less suitable for large-scale official ceremonies.

“We need to consider where such events will be held in the next 10 to 20 years, and we have identified the perfect location in Samarahan,” Abdul Karim was quoted as saying.

He also mentioned that the proposal has already received government approval, and the tender process is underway, paving the way for the construction of Sarawak’s largest boulevard, stretching two kilometres.

Abdul Karim made the announcement during the Asajaya District-level Quran Recitation Ceremony held at the Masjid Darul Rahmah Kampung Tambirat here last night (Sept 25).

He elaborated that, in addition to hosting official events, the boulevard would serve as a recreational and social space for local residents.

This initiative is part of Sarawak’s broader plan for Samarahan’s development in line with the Greater Kuching area expansion. — DayakDaily
