ASAJAYA, June 18: Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) will consider the proposal to build Sri Aman Boxing Centre to produce boxers in the State.

Its Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the proposal brought forward by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis is timely considering that the sport of boxing is popular among the locals in Sri Aman.

“That is why in the upcoming 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma), I have placed the boxing event to be held in Sri Aman because I know that there are many boxing enthusiasts there.

“Therefore, we will consider Harden’s proposal on making Sri Aman a centre of excellence for us to produce more boxers for Sarawak and Malaysia,” he told reporters after officiating at the Qurban meat distribution ceremony in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration at Kampung Asajaya Ulu here today. A video clip of his statement was made available to DayakDaily.

On June 15, Harden was reported to have announced that a four-acre plot of land near the Sri Aman Sports Complex has been identified for the construction of the proposed Sri Aman Boxing Centre and it is currently awaiting approval from MYSED. — DayakDaily
