Sarawak snatches 3 more gold medals in archery, diving at Sukma XX

KUCHING, Sept 22: Sarawak swept up three more gold medals with two in archery and one in diving at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma XX) in Kuala Lumpur today.

In archery, Joey Tan Xing Lei and Cecil Nathanael Busu Polycap won the gold in the Olympic Recurve Mixed Team final, while Supang Yahya, Joey Tan Xing Lei and Zakirah Mohammad Feroz bagged the gold in Olympic Recurve Women Team event.

The archery team also picked up a silver and a bronze through Tan and Supang respectively in the Olympic Recurve Women Individual event.

Meanwhile, Sarawakian divers Bertrand Rhodict Lises and Elvis Priestly Clement captured gold and silver in the men’s platform final event held at the Bukit Jalil Aquatic Centre.

In judo, Tan Kok Hong took the silver in the men’s 81kg event, while Cheryl Chew Sze Yin took the bronze in the women’s +70kg event.

In boxing, Daeloniel Mcdelon Bong and Jackson Chambai Ikeh took home the bronze in the men’s featherweight (54-57kg) category and men’s flyweight (48-51kg) category respectively.

Sarawak’s women volleyball team also delivered a bronze medal.

Yesterday (Sept 21), brothers Muhammad Johan Ghazali Zulfikar and Elias Ghazali Zulfikar delivered two gold medals in muaythai in the men’s 60kg category and men’s 63.5kg category at the tournament held at South City Plaza in Seri Kembangan.

In addition, the Sarawak muaythai squad also delivered four bronze medals.

In tenpin bowling, Sarawak’s five-member women’s team captured the gold, while the five-member men’s team brought home a silver.

At press time, Sarawak’s overall medal tally stands at 23 gold, 32 silver and 38 bronze medals.— DayakDaily
