Sarawak showcases digital ambitions on global stage with Pavilion launch at Mobile World Congress Barcelona

KUCHING, March 4: Sarawak has taken another bold step toward becoming a regional leader in digital transformation, smart technologies, and sustainable development with the launch of the Sarawak Pavilion at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025 yesterday (March 3).

Serving as a gateway for global investors, technology leaders, and businesses, the pavilion highlights Sarawak’s vast opportunities in the digital economy, renewable energy, and industry collaborations.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasised Sarawak’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation in line with its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Sarawak is leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create new business opportunities and enhance the well-being of our communities.

“The Sarawak Pavilion at MWC Barcelona showcases our readiness to collaborate, innovate, and grow with global partners,” he said during the launch.

Uggah also encouraged businesses, investors, and tech leaders to engage with Sarawak and be part of its journey toward a technology-driven and sustainable future.

Meanwhile, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi highlighted the delegation’s focus on expanding business engagements through business matching sessions, networking opportunities, and high-level discussions.

“These initiatives will enable Sarawak to tap into global expertise, explore innovative solutions, and cultivate impactful collaborations that drive sustainable digital and economic growth,” he said.

Among those present at the launch were Malaysian Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication permanent secretary Datu Jafri Lias, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Dato Dr. Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, and other key officials.

In a statement, SMA described the Sarawak Pavilion as more than just an exhibition space—it is a hub for forging strategic partnerships, attracting investments, and fostering innovation.

Sarawak’s participation at MWC Barcelona 2025 aims to draw interest from industry leaders, investors, and technology experts seeking collaboration opportunities.

Running from March 3 to 6, the prestigious event is expected to host over 120,000 attendees from 205 countries and territories, including top executives, policymakers, and tech pioneers.

“With more than 2,700 exhibitors and 1,100 speakers, MWC Barcelona remains a focal point for groundbreaking innovations shaping the future of digital transformation.

“Throughout the event, the Sarawak delegation will engage with global technology leaders, investors, and major industry players to explore opportunities in smart cities, AI, fintech, renewable energy, and digital trade,” the statement added. — DayakDaily
