KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 21: The Sarawak Science Centre (SSCiEX) is nearing completion with 80 per cent of construction works done, said Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

He said the centre’s physical structure is progressing ahead of schedule, and efforts are now focused on the arrival and installation of interactive exhibition materials ordered from overseas.

“The progress has been encouraging and slightly ahead of plan. The structure could be completed sooner, but we are still waiting for the imported exhibition components,” he told reporters after officiating the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) and SSCiEX Open Day 2025 at the Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI) here today.

Located on a 10.8-acre site along Jalan Stadium in Petra Jaya, the facility will serve as a science education hub to promote hands-on learning and public interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Once operational, the centre will feature a range of interactive exhibits and outreach programmes designed to inspire curiosity and nurture innovation among young Sarawakians, in line with the State’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

The project is financed under the Sarawak Budget 2025 announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025, with a soft launch in mid-2026. — DayakDaily
