KUCHING, Nov 4: The first phase of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project, covering the stretch from Kampung Gelugus, Lawas, to Long Lopeng Junction in Sarawak, has reached 40 per cent completion as of October this year.
Deputy Minister of Public Works Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the project spanning approximately 77 kilometres (km) began in August 2021 and is expected to be completed by November 2026.
Meanwhile, he said the second phase of the SSLR project, connecting Lawas to Limbang and subsequently to Mulu town without passing through Brunei, has been issued the Letter of Acceptance (SST) in March this year.
“This project consists of four packages and covers an estimated 322km in length.
“The current status for SSLR Phase 2 involves land acquisition by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) and site clearing by contractors in several areas where the process has been completed.
“The implementation period for SSLR Phase 2 is expected to be five years,” he said in response to a question from Datuk Anyi Ngau (GPS-Baram) on the status and schedule of the SSLR during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat broadcast live by Malaysian Parliament today.
Answering a supplementary question from Anyi, Maslan explained that the four packages under SSLR Phase 2 will cover the following stretches: from Mulu to Long Seridan (61km); from Long Seridan to Nanga Mendamit (101km); from Long Lopeng to Long Komap, Ba’Kelalan (63km); and from Rumah Aling to Long Merarap (97km). — DayakDaily
