KUCHING, Sept 7: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has teamed up with Sabah Tourism Board (STB) for the launch of the ‘Discover Borneo: Malaysia’s Favourite Destination’ campaign at the Matta Fair Kuala Lumpur 2024.
Speaking at the launch today, Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah highlighted the significant collaboration is aimed at creating a dynamic marketing campaign that showcases both regions as a unified and attractive tourist destination.
“The tourism sector in Borneo has seen tremendous growth and high demand, and by working together, we can further amplify the positive economic impacts for both regions.
“This joint campaign is a testament to our commitment to positioning Borneo as a premier travel destination for both local and international tourists,” he said in a media release.
For 2024, Sarawak has set a target of 4 million visitors, comprising 2 million international and 2 million domestic tourists. By July, Sarawak had already welcomed 2.84 million visitors, including 1.76 million international arrivals and 1.07 million domestic tourists.
Abdul Karim pointed out that these numbers reflect the growing demand for Borneo as a top tourist destination and the effectiveness of ongoing campaigns.
“In the long run, we aim to achieve our goal of welcoming 12.7 million visitors and generate RM50 billion in economic returns by 2035, all while championing sustainable and responsible tourism to protect our rainforests,” he added.
The Matta Fair, running from Sept 6 to 8 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), serves as the perfect platform for this campaign. Visitors can find the STB booth at Hall 2 to Hall 4, Level 1, throughout the event. – DayakDaily
