KUCHING, Nov 6: Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) has launched a thematic grant call aimed at advancing research and development in renewable energy, with a special focus on hydrogen production and storage.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is one of the ways to address the key challenge of reducing the cost of production in hydrogen economy as Sarawak advances to become a leader in renewable energy innovation and its contribution to global sustainability goals.
“This initiative is not only a step towards lowering production costs but also a commitment to leveraging our local knowledge and resources,” he said in his speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian during the opening ceremony of 2nd Sarawak Research and Development Symposium 2024 broadcast live by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Facebook today.
Abang Johari further said the wisdom and experience embedded within Sarawak’s local communities, including the indigenous peoples, are invaluable assets in the region’s quest for global solutions.
“By integrating local expertise into our innovative research programs and processes, we can develop approaches that are contextually appropriate and culturally sensitive, thereby enhancing their efficacy and acceptance,” he added.
Also present were Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn; MEITD advisor Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong; SRDC member Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot; and SRDC general manager Dr Peter Morin Nissom. — DayakDaily
