Sarawak records 7 new positive cases of Covid-19

KUCHING, Apr 11: Sarawak recorded seven new positive cases of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) with no casualty as of noon today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) deputy chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah disclosed that all the patients for the seven cases are being treated at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Today, there are 81 new cases of Person Under Investigation (PUI) being reported.

“This makes the cumulative number of PUI cases in Sarawak to date at 2,340 cases.

“Out of that amount, the results of 1,774 cases are negative while 232 PUI cases are awaiting laboratory results,” Abdul Karim said during a press conference to reveal the updates on state’s Covid-19 situation at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.

Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, stated that Kuching has the highest number of new PUI cases with 53, followed by Samarahan with nine, Miri with seven, Bintulu with six and one each in Bau, Lundu, Serian, Sarikei, Meradong and Kapit.

On another note, he disclosed that the compliance rate for the movement control order (MCO) in Sarawak stood at 97.2 per cent.

However, Abdul Karim who is Youth and Sports Minister noted that the policemen have arrested three people for violating the MCO.

Abdul Karim who is Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister noted that there were also 89 people who are being fined for breaking the law of MCO.

He stated that since the MCO was enforced on March 18, 169 people have been fined, 556 people have been arrested and 435 people have been charged in court for failing to comply with the MCO. —DayakDaily
