KUCHING, June 27: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has proposed expanding the role of Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development (M-Ficord) Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said that he had discussed with the Sarawak Premier the establishment of an agency like the Ulu Rajang Development Agency (URDA).
Dr Rundi also disclosed that Abang Johari suggested that the role of BDA be further expanded since the agency has its own allocation.
“The Premier of Sarawak proposed that BDA’s role be expanded further because they have provisions to address basic needs such as roads, clean water supply, and others,” he said today at the cheque handover ceremony for Minor Rural Project (MRP) Phase One 2023 and the MRP-Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (PPRMS) Phase Two 2022 for the Kemena constituency in Bintulu.
He added that Residents and District Officers will meet with the Sarawak Premier to discuss the ‘missing road’ issue in the Ulu Pandan and Ulu Kakus areas.
Meanwhile, Dr Rundi emphasised that every longhouse that intends to be rebuilt must have a well-organised plan and its own allocation fund.
“The MRP allocation that is channelled is only to help supplement existing funds and needs to be distributed prudently to every resident or longhouse in need,” he explained.
In addition, the Kemena assemblyman suggested that a meeting be held to inform longhouse residents of government allocations.
Meanwhile, a total of RM939,977 was distributed to 39 beneficiaries, with 26 receiving the MRP Phase One Year 2023 allocation and 13 receiving the MRP-PPRMS Phase Two Year 2022 allocation.
Also present were Sebauh District Officer William Manggoi, Bintulu Division agriculture officer Jackson Nanta, Pemanca Limin Anai, and Penghulu Banta Baong. — DayakDaily
