SARIKEI, Aug 13: The construction of Jalan Pasi-Tanjung Manis which includes the Batang Rajang Bridge costing more than RM300 million here will be completed in September next year.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the projects would connect Tanjung Manis via Sarikei to Sibu.
“With the road access, traveling from Sibu to Sarikei will take about 40 minutes, and from Sarikei to Tanjung Manis we will pass over the new bridge which is currently under construction and will be completed in September 2024.
“Upon completion, the traveling time between Sibu and Tanjung Manis will take only about an hour,” he said when officiating at the Tanjung Manis Fishing Safari 2023 closing ceremony in conjunction with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation’s (STIDC) Golden Jubilee anniversary celebration, which was broadcast live by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) on Facebook today.
Abang Johari further said road travel time between Sibu and Kuching would be reduced thanks to the coastal road network and upon the completion of Batang Lupar Bridge, to a rough estimation of about two-and-a-half hours.
“If those traveling from Kuching to Sibu take only about two hours and a half, they can drive for another hour to Tanjung Manis and visit Belawai which has beautiful scenery near the sea,” he added.
Also present were Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh who is also a member of STIDC Board of Directors; Sarawak Federal Secretary Ahmad Nazri Mohd Hassan; Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab; Mukah Resident Kueh Lei Poh; STIDC general manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah and STIDC advisor Datu Hashim Bojet. — DayakDaily
