ABU DHABI, Nov 7: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has highlighted the urgent need for a global financing framework to support emerging climate technologies in addressing environmental and sustainability issues.

Speaking on the sidelines of the recent 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, he stressed that while new renewable technologies hold promise, they carry significant financial risks that need to be managed strategically.

“At COP28, there was a lot of focus on finance. The key question is: who is going to fund all these new technologies, considering the risks involved?

“I hope the international community will be able to develop a formula to support all these new projects,” he said in an exclusive interview with Nikkei Asia at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition Conference (ADIPEC) 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday (Nov 6).

A video recording of the interview was made available to DayakDaily today, thanks to ADIPEC team.

Abang Johari underscored the importance of balancing risks with the potential global benefits of these innovations.

His comments come as climate scientists warn that the climate crisis is worsening, and he urged a collective approach to funding sustainable initiatives that have the potential to create a positive global impact. — DayakDaily
