KUCHING, Aug 21: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is leading a delegation to Sweden safely arrived in Stockholm last night.
The Sarawak delegation includes Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is Minister for International Trade and Investment Sarawak; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Dato Murshid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya; and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the delegation was welcomed by Malaysian Ambassador to Sweden, Hafizah Abdullah; Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid; Sarawak Federal Secretary Ahmad Nazri Mohd Hassan; Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and several top government and government-linked corporations’ (GLCs) officials.
Also joining the two-day trip to Sweden was Abang Johari’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
It was previously reported that the Premier will be in Sweden for two days with the aim of benchmarking ombudsman legislation and implementation ahead of drafting Sarawak’s own Ombudsman Ordinance.
During the visit, the Premier and members of his entourage will also engage with Swedish energy authorities and power operators.
Afterward, the Premier will lead the delegation to visit Norway with a view of gaining insights into the development and operation of onshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen facilities in Bergen.
While in Norway, the Premier will also meet with officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy and hold discussions with industry players on CCS, net-zero emission and decarbonisation initiatives.
The Premier will then fly to London to cap off the weeklong visit with a meeting with top Shell officials at the multinational’s headquarters in the British capital. — DayakDaily
