KUCHING, Oct 13: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Sarawak is prepared to face the northeast monsoon season and the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Asked by reporters if they will face any challenges especially in manpower because of the two major events which will most likely run concurrently, Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the police are always ready to face any circumstances.
“We have been given the responsibility and trust to control the election process and assisting any eventuality during this northeast monsoon. Therefore, we will do our best.
“We have assigned 1,663 personnel for the northeast monsoon season and 7,063 personnel for GE15.
“As for the deployment for G15, we will rely on our own manpower. We won’t involve any assistance from personnel outside Sarawak,” Mohd Azman said after attending a police-media high tea event at Sarawak Police Headquarters (IPK) here today.
Earlier he disclosed a total of 1,064 Sarawak police assets, consisting of land, sea and air assets, are ready to be mobilised whenever necessary to tackle floods.
He also acknowledged that they will have to make do with what they have but he also gave assurance that PDRM in Sarawak can manage.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the country will face the monsoon season which will bring thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds from October 3 until November. — DayakDaily
