Sarawak police arrest 282 suspects, seize various drugs amounting to RM42k during Op Tapis

KUCHING, March 8: The police have conducted a State-wide special operation, known as ‘Op Tapis’, resulting in the arrest of 282 individuals and the seizure of various types of drugs worth RM42,911.60 from March 4 to 6.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata said the suspects comprised of 273 men and nine women aged between 17 and 56.


He stated that the arrests were the result of 342 raids carried out at plantations, fishing jetties, residential areas, shophouses, and other various premises and locations across the State.

“In this operation, a total of 656.63g of drugs were confiscated, namely ecstasy powder (436.8g), syabu (164.09g), ketamine (21.03g), ecstasy pills (19.91g) and Erimin 5 pills (14.8g).

“The amount of the drugs seized can cater to 2,459 drug abusers,” he said in a statement today.

Of the total suspects, 169 are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, followed by Section 12 (2) – 56 persons, Section 39A(1) – 23 persons, Section 39C – five persons, Section 39B – four persons, Section 3(1) – three persons, and Section 39A(2) – two persons.

The remaining 20 suspects are wanted persons.

From Jan 1 to March 6, 2024, the Sarawak police have arrested a total of 2,312 individuals including 154 drug dealers, seized drugs amounting to RM7,624,751.34, and confiscated property suspected to be the proceeds of drug trafficking worth RM557,294.95. — DayakDaily
