KUCHING, Oct 20: Sarawak has no issue with the two-week campaigning period for 15th General Election (GE15).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, in welcoming the Election Commission’s (EC) announcement of polling and nomination dates on Nov 19 and Nov 5 respectively, said Sarawak will comply with the decisions.

“What is the issue? We will not question the decisions of the EC but as always, Sarawak will comply with it.

“Like mentioned for many times (before), GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and its component parties are ready to face the general election with the machinery already prepared to be mobilised,” he told reporters when met after launching the “An Anthology of Indigenous Peoples’ Issues” book at a hotel here today.

At the event, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum expressed his hope the weather will be good and kind throughout the campaigning period.

“We have done our preparations and are now just waiting for the signal to tell us to go.

“I believe all component parties have finalised their potential candidates, except the names are yet to be revealed pending the approval by the Premier (of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) who will issue the writ for each candidate,” he said.

Salang added that PRS has also reviewed a list of its nominated candidates to be fielded in the six parliamentary constituencies the party will contest in.

“The (candidate) list will be submitted to the Premier after my discussion with him to iron out some issues before I officially present to him the list of candidates,” he said.

On whether he will stand for election, Salang reiterated that he will leave the matter of his candidacy for Julau to the wisdom of Abang Johari who is the GPS chairman.

“It is not for me to decide, but if the Premier gives me the writ and opportunity, I am prepared and will go down and fight,” he added. — DayakDaily
