NORWAY, Aug 25: Sarawak plans to send students to Norway to study carbon capture and storage (CCS) techniques to produce more local experts in the sector, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Abang Johari stated that Sarawak and Norway has synergy from an economic resources aspect in the production of hydropower as well as oil and gas.
“We need to send our students here so that they can learn more in-depth methods to improve CCS technology.
“In terms of technology, Norway is very advanced. I also mentioned that we are a developing State and they (Norway) are a developed country. What we can do is to send students here (to study) at local universities,” he reportedly said after meeting with energy transition consultancy company Det Norske Veritas (DNV) here yesterday (Aug 24).
Abang Johari further said the matter is currently being discussed with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
He also stressed that students sent to the country must have proficiency in English, and even have the opportunity to learn Norwegian.
“I am sure the Malaysian Ambassador to Norway will recommend a suitable university for the students,” he added. — DayakDaily
