KUCHING, Aug 28: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd has sent two engineers and two apprentices on a two-month attachment programme with Global Rail Sdn Bhd in Selangor to strengthen its pool of skilled manpower to manage the upcoming Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.
The backbone of the KUTS project is the introduction of the zero-emission Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen vehicles.
In a statement yesterday (Aug 27), Sarawak Metro said both Muhammad Azri Abdul Wahed and Syammil Mohd Ishak will be attached with the Signalling and Control System Department while Qhalief Sapawi and Nur Nafisa Abdullah will be attached with the Automated Platform Gate Department.
All four of them had left for Kuala Lumpur yesterday morning and are scheduled to complete their attachment in October.
“Muhammad Azri and Qhalief are System Assurance & Requirements engineers, while Syammil is a senior apprentice for Signalling & Communication System and Nur Nafisa is an apprentice for Automated Platform Gate.
“After completing their attachment with Global Rail, all four will be making their way to China to continue with their attachment programme there,” it said.
The attachment programme comes under Sarawak Metro’s Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) programme, a first for a mega project in Sarawak, to enhance the procurement value of the KUTS project.
The project which aims to ease traffic congestion, is being developed in phases. Phase 1 includes the development of three lines—the Blue Line from Rembus in Kota Samarahan to Hikmah Exchange in the city centre; the Red Line from Kuching Sentral to Pending; and the Green Line from Pending to Damai.
Phase 1 of the KUTS Project is scheduled to start operations from the fourth quarter of 2025. — DayakDaily
