KUCHING, Nov 1: The Special Rahmah Chicken Sales Programme, which offers chicken at RM7.90 per kilogramme, compared to the new floated price of RM11.60 without subsidies, will take place every Friday at designated outlets throughout Sarawak.

This special programme, adopting the concept of Rahmah Sales Programme, is specifically for chicken and will be extended to all strategic partner outlets of Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Barin announced this when launching the special programme in collaboration with Central Cold Storage Kuching (CCK) at its Demak Laut outlet, which objective is to ease the financial strains on consumers consequent to the discontinuation of chicken subsidies and price controls effective today.

“Previously under price control, chicken is priced at RM10.80 per kilogramme. However, the pricing has now been floated.

“We will hold this special programme, offering chicken at RM7.90, every Friday across all KPDN branches in Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Kuching, working alongside our strategic partners,” he said at the function this morning.

CCK Demak Laut outlet will be holding the Special Rahmah Chicken Sales Programme offering poultry at RM7.90 per kilogramme.

Matthew added that the response from its strategic partners like CCK has been positive and encouraging with all giving their full support to the programme.

“We have around five to 10 strategic partners in each branch and we will give opportunity to them to implement this special programme,” he elaborated.

This initiative is an additional special programme, apart from the Rahmah Sales Programme conducted twice a month across all 31 parliamentary constituencies in Sarawak.

As of Oct 31, KPDN Sarawak has successfully implemented 482 Rahmah Sales Programme within these constituencies.

Meanwhile, acting KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has yesterday said industry players have assured the government that there would not be a surge in prices of chicken from today following the termination of subsidies and price controls. — DayakDaily
