Sarawak identifies 7 hotspots for Covid-19

KUCHING, Mar 21: The state government has identified seven locations which are deemed as hotspots for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak in Sarawak.

The information was revealed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.


ā€œThere are several locations which has been identified as hotspots for Covid-19. They are in Kuching, Serian, Betong, Sarikei, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.

ā€œThe public needs to follow the advice of the authorities with regards to observing the movement control order (MCO).

ā€œJust stay at home and the severity of the disease is not to be underestimated,ā€ he told a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

Abang Johari added that the state government was in discussions with private hospitals on providing health screening and testing for Covid-19.

Those hospitals included Borneo Medical Centre (BMC), Timberland Medical Centre (TMC), Kuching Specialist Hospital (KPJ) and Normah Specialist Hospital.

He said the efforts to collaborate with private hospitals was to enhance the state governmentā€™s capacity to deal with the Covid-19 situation.

In addition, Abang Johari said the state government was enlisting the military personnel with immediate effect to assist in enforcing the MCO, especially in rural areas.

Among those at the press conference were State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian. ā€”DayakDaily
