KUCHING, Mar 21: The state government is closing all border posts immediately to contain and prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

This was revealed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

“All border posts are to be closed with immediate effect.

“Only the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex between Sarawak and Brunei namely Sungai Tujuh, Tedungan, Pandaruan and Mengkalap will be open from 6am to 8pm.

“All CIQs between Sarawak and Kalimantan namely Tebedu, Biawak and Lubok Antu will be open between 9am to 3pm.

“This is in line with the opening hours as agreed by Brunei and Indonesia,” he said during a press conference.

He added the severity and the seriousness of the Covid-19 problem was not to be underestimated.

He explained that the movement control order (MCO) was an exercise to flatten the infection curve of Covid-19 which will burden the community, the state and the country’s resources, and affect the health and safety of every individual, if not checked.

Abang Johari appealed to the public once more to abide strictly to the MCO.

He stressed that public co-operation was vital otherwise the infection will go out of control.

“The public needs to follow the advice of the authorities. Just stay at home,” he pointed out.—DayakDaily
