KUCHING, Aug 13: Sarawak has recorded over RM1 billion in tourism receipts each month from January to June 2025, underscoring the State’s robust performance in the tourism sector.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamza revealed that a total of 2,415,563 tourists visited the State during this period, placing the Sarawak on track to achieve its target of five million visitors this year.

“From January to June, we consistently exceeded RM1 billion in monthly tourism receipts. By the end of June, total receipts reached RM6,157,818,756.95. This is an achievement we should all be proud of and demonstrates that the hospitality industry is thriving,” he said.

He made the remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Permodalan Satok Berhad (PSB) and Riyaz International Sdn Bhd at the Hikmah Exchange and Event Centre today.

Abdul Karim emphasised that the strong tourism performance directly benefits industry players, particularly in hospitality, food and beverage, transportation, and local craft sectors.

“Most of these tourism receipts do not go to the government treasury. Instead, they circulate within the industry, among hotels, restaurants, transportation, and craft businesses. That is the reality,” he explained.

He credited Sarawak’s sustained promotional efforts at international platforms, including ITB Berlin, IMEX Frankfurt, and WTM London, for the rise in tourist arrivals and receipts.

Also present at the event were PSB executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain, Sarawak Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) and PSB board member Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Riyaz International Sdn Bhd managing director Dato Sri Mohammed Shaheen Shah Mohd Sidek, and other guests. — DayakDaily
