KUCHING, July 14: Sarawak has reached the halfway mark of its five million visitor target for 2025, recording between 400,000 and 500,000 arrivals monthly, with Bruneians making up the largest group of international visitors.
Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah revealed that over 200,000 visitors from Brunei Darussalam enter Sarawak each month, significantly boosting the State’s tourism numbers.
“This year, we hope to see five million visitors to Sarawak. As of now, we have already reached half of that figure, with around 400,000 to 500,000 visitors or tourists coming to Sarawak every month.
“The majority of them come from Brunei Darussalam, with more than 200,000 Bruneians entering Sarawak each month,” he said during a welcoming dinner for ASEAN youth delegates at the English Tea House in Petra Jaya here yesterday (July 13).
Abdul Karim, who also serves as Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, took the opportunity to highlight the strong commitment of both the Sarawak government and federal government in empowering youth and fostering regional solidarity through volunteerism.
He lauded the presence of youth delegates from across ASEAN, describing their participation as a testament to the strength of ASEAN’s spirit of volunteerism and unity.
“To the ASEAN youth, you are not only the leaders of tomorrow but the changemakers of today. You are shaping a better region with your ideas, actions, and unyielding spirit,” he said.
Also present at the event was Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia Adam Adli. — DayakDaily
