SIBU, April 24: Sarawak is looking into setting up a port authority to manage ports under its jurisdiction under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development as part of the government’s plan to merge all ports in the region under one identity.

However, Deputy Minister Dato Majang Renggi said these ports would need to be privatised first in order to form the new authority which will be known as Sarawak Port Authority (LPS).

The five ports under the ministry’s jurisdiction comprise Miri Port, Samalaju Port, Rajang Port, Tanjong Manis Port and Kuching Port. These ports currently are operating under their respective authorities.
