KUCHING, Dec 13: The Sarawak government and the Imperial College of London have agreed to engage in further discussions regarding collaborations in human capital training, specifically focusing on technical expertise in artifical intelligence (AI) and virtual reality technology, as well as carbon capture and storage technology.
This decision was made subsequent to a meeting led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who headed a Sarawak delegation during their visit to the College on Monday (London time, Dec 11), according to a media release.
During the visit, the Sarawak delegation received briefings on the latest advancements in AI/VR technology, as well as insights into CO2 plant and net-zero labs.
Various research projects, including those related to carbon capture and storage technologies currently being piloted at the College, were showcased.
This visit followed the Sarawak delegation’s active participation at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, which emphasised themes of technology and innovation, inclusion, frontline communities, and finance.
The Sarawak delegation comprised of Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Intenational Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, Datu Zaidi Mahdi, Economic Planning Unit director Datu Lester Matthew, Land and Survey Department director Datu Abdullah Julaihi, Regional Corridor Development Authority chief executive officer (CEO) Datu Ismawi Ismuni, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad senior vice president (Corporate Strategy) Abang Arabi Abang Narudin and InvestSarawak CEO Timothy Ong. — DayakDaily
