PADAWAN, March 4: A total of 290 residents from three villages in Siburan District now have better access to clean water after receiving water tanks from the Sarawak government.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities have adequate basic infrastructure, including a reliable water supply.
“A total of 125 residents from Kampung Subang, 101 from Kampung Begu, and 64 from Kampung Pesang received this assistance, as they have long relied on gravity-fed water systems that often fall short, especially during the dry season.
“The government’s role extends beyond major infrastructure development—we must also address fundamental needs such as clean water, particularly for rural communities still dependent on gravity-fed sources,” he said during the water tank handover ceremony in Kampung Begu on Monday (March 3).

As part of this initiative, the Sarawak government has provided three-layer water tanks with a 500-gallon capacity to strengthen water storage and ensure a more stable supply for the affected villages.
Sagah, who is also Tarat assemblyman, expressed hope that this effort would enhance water management in the villages, improving residents’ daily lives and overall well-being.
Meanwhile, Siburan District officer Ranum Bari urged recipients to utilise the tanks effectively, noting past instances where such assistance was underutilised.
“We want to ensure that this support truly benefits the community,” he said.
Also present at the event were political secretary to the Sarawak Premier Damen Rejek and Penghulu Nobert Nuom Layon. — DayakDaily
