KUCHING, Feb 26: The Sarawak government has assisted 1,900 homebuyers in securing their own homes through its RM10,000 deposit assistance, easing the financial burden on first-time buyers.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government-funded initiative covers the RM10,000 home purchase deposit, allowing buyers to proceed with only their monthly loan repayments through Mutiara Mortgage & Finance Sdn Bhd.
“Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian (Deputy Premier) has informed me that we have rolled out the deposit assistance for 1,900 homes so far.
“This means many more housing units will be completed soon, enabling more people in our community to purchase their own homes,” he said when speaking at the Vision Hill House Keys Handover Ceremony in Matang today. A recording of his speech was later shared with the media.
The event saw 250 new homeowners receiving their keys, marking another milestone in Sarawak’s affordable housing efforts.
Abang Johari commended Hong Seng Construction (E.M) Sdn Bhd and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for delivering well-designed homes featuring modern layouts, ample space, and recreational facilities such as a safe jogging track and playground.
He also announced that Hong Seng and HDC will develop a new housing project at Batu 15, Kuching-Serian Road, which will come with enhanced features, including two parking spaces per unit.
“This is an added bonus for buyers—an extra parking space at no additional cost, making homeownership even more convenient,” he said.
The Premier emphasized the importance of responsible developers, citing cases where buyers were burdened with loan deductions for incomplete homes.
“We need developers like Hong Seng, who deliver homes on time and maintain high-quality standards, ensuring buyers get what they paid for,” he said. – DayakDaily
