MIRI, March 6: The Sarawak government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting people with special needs (OKU) through various initiatives and schemes, said Minister for Transport Sarawak, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
Speaking at a charity visit to the Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) PIBAKIS Miri in Jalan Pantai Lutong today, Lee emphasised the government’s dedication to fostering a caring and inclusive society.
The event, held in conjunction with the upcoming International Women’s Day on March 8, was organised by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Miri-Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee.
“Various assistance schemes are available through the Social Welfare Department, specifically for OKU individuals.
“They can benefit from different forms of aid, including special education classes taught by trained teachers to ensure they receive proper education and care,” said Lee, who also chairs the SUPP Miri-Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee.
He stressed the importance of community involvement in supporting those in need, urging the public to extend their compassion and assistance to the less fortunate.
“The government’s policy is to cultivate a caring society where those who are more fortunate and capable can help those who are less privileged. Together, we can build a compassionate and inclusive Sarawak,” he added.
The charity visit saw the participation of five SUPP women’s branches—SUPP Senadin, SUPP Piasau, SUPP Pujut, SUPP Lambir, and SUPP Bekenu.
