KUCHING, July 27: All clinics and hospitals under the Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS) will still be accepting cash payments despite the recent announcement of going all digital in public health facilities.

Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had reassured that cash payments will continue in Sarawak seeing that some elderly patients are still unable to cope with digital gadgets as well as the ongoing implementation of internet coverage in rural Sarawak.

Dr Sim said Sarawak is supportive of the Health Ministry’s initiative of going digital, which is also in line with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s aspirations for a digital economy.

Earlier on July 24, it was reported that all Health Ministry facilities including clinics and hospitals will only accept cashless payments via debit cards, credit cards and e-wallets starting Oct 1. — DayakDaily
