Sarawak govt allocates RM2.9 mln for longhouse devt in Sarikei

KUCHING, Sept 28: The Sarawak government has allocated RM2.9 million for the construction of Rh Lingga Ujang and Rh Jessica Patrick longhouses in Sarikei.

According to a report from TV Sarawak (TVS), Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, stated that the project will be implemented under the Longhouse Loan Scheme through the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

“The first longhouse, Rh Lingga Ujang, located in Sungai Selangan with 74 doors, will receive a loan of RM2.2 million, with each door receiving RM30,000. The second longhouse, Rh Jessica Patrick, which has 15 doors, will receive RM750,000, with each door allocated RM50,000,” he explained.

Huang, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sarikei, mentioned that Sarawak’s Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has also allocated special funds for the development of basic infrastructure, including upgrading longhouses in Sarikei and Meradong.
